Truly? 666?

Couldn’t someone in the Texas Legislature have drafted another bill? I didn’t care what it was, something insignificant or something that wouldn’t have much impact.

When fishing for bass on Tuesdays on lakes in Texas starting with the letter Z, you can only use Palomar knots on your hooks. Or maybe STAAR testing is illegal on days that end in “Y”.

Just something that would bring us to a total of 667 new laws. Well, all the “beastly” references aside, I’m going to highlight a few of these new laws that seem to be getting the most attention.

House Bill 1927 – The Constitutional Carriage Bill

If you are a Texan aged 21 or older, you will now be able to carry a handgun without a license. You no longer need to obtain a state-issued license to carry a handgun in public. Pistols can be worn openly or concealed, as long as individuals are not prohibited from owning a firearm. While it is no longer mandatory to take training, most experts agree that taking firearms training is a great choice to make. You’ll be safer, have a better idea of what to do if you are faced with it, and avoid situations that could get you in trouble with the law.

Senate Bill 8 – The Heartbeat Bill

This new law is probably the most polarizing of all. Abortions are prohibited once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, regardless of the situations surrounding the pregnancy, such as rape or incest. A doctor is allowed to perform an abortion if it is considered a medical emergency. Lawsuits can also be brought against those who helped someone obtain an abortion.

House Bill 1518 – Sunday Beer and Wine Sales

This law also elicited many comments. Did you not like to wait until the afternoon to buy beer or wine on Sunday? Well, now you can buy your favorite beer or merlot at 10 a.m.

There are many other 666 laws that have caught the attention of many Texans.
