Hair to stay – The New Indian Express

A blessing in disguise, a lifeline, and a miracle are some of the terms used to describe the new hair care craze: the bowl method. A recent video posted by a curly-haired influencer by the name of
@ curlyzia.xo on Instagram got five million views on TikTok and got an entire population of women to try this new technique for achieving frizz-free curls.

The process is quick and easy. Wash and condition your hair. Apply a curl cream of your choice. Now fill a bowl with lukewarm water (neither hot nor cold). Dip your hair in it and start creasing upwards. Repeat four times. Dry with a microfiber towel or leave it in a cotton T-shirt for a few minutes. Leave to air dry. You will notice smooth waves as opposed to curly tufts.

“Kérastase Curl Manifesto Refresh or pH Curl Defining Cream are the best leave-in products for this method,” explains master hairstylist Barbara Ross of Levo Spalon in Gurgaon, adding: “To achieve the desired result it is important not to to rush. It is not enough to just follow the steps. You have to do them right. My best advice would be to apply curl cream or conditioner the entire length of the hair and gently twist it in your fist to drain the water. Do not rub the hair. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle.

The convenience of the bowl method makes it popular. It evenly distributes the maintenance product and hydrates the hair. For curly hair, this is a big plus as dryness leads to tangles, unruly curls and breakage. “This technique is also ideal for those who suffer from damaged hair,” says Ross.

The heyday of hairdressing is back, it seems.

Good quality leave-in products are important
Do not brush your hair except wet brushing

“My first tip: apply the product over the entire length of the hair. Twist the hair to drain the water. Barbara Ross, master hairdresser, Levo Spalon, Gurgaon
