UPCE Southern Exposure 2021: Chuck Olsen Co. happy to head east again


The Chuck Olsen Co. – which exhibits annually at the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure Convention & Expo in Millen, Georgia since the event’s second year – will be available in 2021.

“We’ll be happy to see people we haven’t seen in a long time,” said Jeff Olsen, president of Chuck Olsen Co. “It’s the fun of this industry – the relationships.”

Vice President Tom Salisbury, Chuck Olsen Co., will join Olsen at the company’s booth on the Southern Exposure Expo floor.

The Chuck Olsen Co. is a national shipper of citrus fruits (navel and Valencia oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruits and limes), cantaloupe, plums, nectarines, peaches, apple watermelons, strawberries, pineapples, cherries and pomegranates – putting the ’emphasis on supplying catering accounts.

“We’re pretty heavy in the restaurant business,” Olsen said.

Like the rest of the restaurant business, Chuck Olsen Co. has had a tough year due to pandemic-related shutdowns, dropping 30-40%.

“It was a battle,” Olsen said.

Chuck Olsen received his bachelor’s degree in viticulture and enology from California State University-Fresno. Her son Jeff and daughter Marti both graduated in agricultural marketing from the California Polytechnic Institute.

Jeff worked as a buyer for a large retailer for five years and has now worked for Chuck Olsen Co. for over 20 years.

Marti also spent five years as a retail buyer before joining the company in 1996.

His son-in-law Tom Salisbury received a degree in crop science from the California Polytechnic Institute and spent over seven years with a national foodservice purchasing company and over six years in sales with a grower-shipper in Salinas, California.
